Supersalve's Sensible Season Skincare

As 2022 winds down, everyone starts their much earned vacation time. More time in the great outdoors helps us refresh, refuel and reset.

But thi is no time to neglect skincare - the opposite is true. you need to make sure your skin doesn't dry out with added sun exposure or inadequate wafer consumption.

Here are three common factors that can cause dehydrated or dry skin:

  • Insufficient water consumption
  • The loss of oil or water from the skin due to a medical condition
  • Skin dehydration and dryness caused by environmental factors

The Difference Between Dry and Dehydrated Skin

While they both may pretty much feel the same, there's a big difference between dry and dehydrated skin.

You may assume your skin is dry because it feels dry when all you need to do is drink more water.

The Difference Between Skin Types & Skin Conditions

You are born with a certain type of skin, such as oily or dry. However, your skin condition refers to what happens to your skin, such as dehydration, acne, and irritation. Anyone can suffer from a skin condition, whether temporarily or permanently.

Supersalve's Fast Fact: Dehydrated skin is a condition, not a skin type.

What is Dry Skin?

Dry skin is skin lacking in oils. If this describes you, then remember you were born with this skin type and you’ll know it because all the skin on your body tends to be dry, whether on your legs or on your scalp.

Dry skin soaks up whatever moisturiser you apply really quickly and it tends to be evident in dry/cracked heels, sensitive or flakey skin. Skin conditions such as eczema can develop from dry skin.

What is Dehydrated Skin?

Dehydrated Skin is a lack of water in the body. Think of it, even if you’re drinking a fair amount of water, your skin benefits last. In fact, your skin is a great barometer for whether you’re drinking enough water or not.

What does your skin do to compensate for dehydration? It makes more oils! So your skin may feel oily but actually, be dehydrated. Add that to the makeup you plaster over your face, using inorganic skincare products, poor diet, environmental pollutants, and even the weather and you’ve got the perfect recipe for troubled skin.

How to Manage Dry & Dehydrated Skin

The good news is that managing either skin situation is relatively simple. Switch to organic products, as pure as you can get them - straight from nature’s apothecary, if possible.

Nature knows best and the ingredients in natural and organic formulations provide your skin with everything it needs to balance the ratio of water to oil on your skin.
